Prayer is how we communicate with God. It's for more than just when we are in need, or at a low point. Prayer is for every season and experience. Prayer can be praise, a conversation, thankfulness, or equipping. Prayer is the gateway to learning how God speaks to you. Prayer changes you—it makes you more like Christ.
Prayer isn't a formal transaction. It allows us to be vulnerable with the One who knows the depths of our hearts. Voicing what we feel and how much we need our Father to move in every area of our lives is a healing experience.
Paul said it best, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)
Here is a simple method that can help you elevate your prayer life!
A.C.T.S Prayer Model
Adoration
First, when we pray, we should always admire God for who He is. Outside of all He can do for us, outside of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and giving us access to salvation, our God is magnificent by His name alone. He is the creator of the universe. Everything good flows from God, and he deserves praise for that! Take your time, and allow His goodness to overcome you. Gratitude is a doorway into God's presence.
"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness." (Psalm 29:2)
Confess
Confession is where we lay down our sins and feelings at the Lord's feet. Repentance is essential because it helps us realign with God. Confession also includes being vulnerable with our Father. Let him know every way you feel so he can comfort, heal, and bring you peace. If you don't know what to say, a beautiful prayer is always, "Lord, search my heart and reveal myself to me." Sometimes, simplicity is key!
"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" Psalm 139:23-24
Thanksgiving
Being thankful is a way to practice not taking anything for granted. Take time to thank God for daily blessings: our well-being, means of survival, and the people we call family. Thank God for the answered prayers you're living in. Lastly, thank God in advance because what He promised will be provided!
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18)
Supplication
Make your requests known and declare God's will over your desires! The Bible says to ask, and it will be given to you, seek, and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. Don't be afraid to tell your Father your wants and needs! He is always listening, and He is our ultimate provider.
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. (John 14:13)
